Engkanto

These are spirits usually called ‘encanto’, ‘tamawo’ or ‘diwata’. In texts they are described alternately as ‘fairies’ or ‘elves’ in the Western sense. Supernaturally beautiful and sometimes malevolent, they are both awe-inspiring and frightening to cross.
